Phil Ryan Llb, BCom, Managing Director
Phil is an experienced magazine publisher who founded the award-winning NetGuide magazine in NZ and Australia. He is a former winner of the NZ Publisher of the Year, at the Magazine Publishing Association Awards. After many years of consumer research and discussion with health experts, Phil realized there was a need to cut through the confusion around healthy eating. Consumers need easy access to evidence-based information on healthy eating and health issues affected by diet. And if this was presented in an easy to read and inspirational format, it would make eating better, enjoyable and easier. So Healthy Food Guide was born in 2005, consumers loved it, and the awards piled up. Food products and science are always evolving so there is a never ending supply of topics to cover and update.
In family life Phil has two energetic teenage sons well known for their ability to eat their way through a week’s worth of food in a day or two, but increasingly becoming more interested in healthier options. Along with his lovely wife Ann, Phil tries to encourage spirited conversation around the issues of the day, including health claims and where things are at with evidence-based science.
Jenny is on a mission to make healthy eating accessible to everyone. She believes that food is the glue that binds people together and loves nothing more than sharing a delicious meal with family and friends. Jenny’s background as a health reporter and a digital journalist has provided her with a strong journalistic ethic, and maintaining Healthy Food Guide’s reputation as a legitimate, trustworthy source of evidence-based nutrition advice is at the core of her work on the publication. Jenny is mother to a teenage Instagram star, partner to a juice maven and the harried owner of two badly behaved dogs.
Niki Bezzant is a writer, speaker, editor and commentator. She’s the founding editor (now editor-at-large) of Healthy Food Guide magazine, a columnist for the Herald on Sunday and a frequent contributor to broadcast media. Niki has been involved in the food media for nearly 20 years. She is currently president of Food Writers New Zealand and a proud ambassador for the Garden to Table programme which helps kids learn how to grow, cook and share food. She is a member of the Council of Directors for the True Health Initiative, a global coalition of health professionals dedicated to sharing a science-based message of what we know for sure about lifestyle and health. Niki is on the Board of the NZ Nutrition Foundation.
Rachel Dudding, Sub-editor
Rachel is an experienced sub-editor, coming most recently from the world of daily business, financial and economic newspapers. She has a lifetime love of food and cooking shows, and is determined to make available to her young set of grandchildren healthy, delicious recipes – and to her children, all the latest research and knowledge about nutrition.
Rose is a registered nutritionist with a BSc and an MSc (Hons) in Human Nutrition. Prior to retraining she had a successful career in marketing ‘fast-moving consumer goods’ – that’s ‘grocery products’ to the rest of us – before making the change to nutrition. Rose has since worked in a private nutrition clinic, lectured at Massey University, and undertaken project work for the New Zealand Nutrition Foundation.
Katrina is an HFG nutritionist and registered dietitian with an interest in helping people through diet and nutrition. She has 20+ years of experience working in the health and wellness industries. Katrina is a writer, researcher and clinical and holistic dietitian. She is based in Auckland with her husband, two kids, two cats and a large lolloping dog.
Claire trained as a Dietitian and fitness instructor in the UK and after working in the NHS for several years, moved to New Zealand in 2005. For several years Claire worked as a nutritionist at Diabetes New Zealand, taught fitness classes and did personal training in the community as well as working as a nutritionist for a professional rugby team.
Claire has been part of the team here at Healthy Food Guide for over 12 years, as well as contributor to the magazine and representing Healthy Food Guide on TV, Radio and in print media, she works as part of our Workplace Wellbeing team.
In addition to her work with Healthy Food Guide, Claire is the owner and director of the private nutrition practice and corporate wellness company Mission Nutrition where she has a wonderful team of people working alongside her. She is a professional speaker, has published two best selling books with Penguin Random House, Lose Weight for Life and Feel Good for Life and she has also released a wellness diary called ‘It’s a beautiful day’. Outside of work, Claire loves the gym, travel and spending as much time as possible with her two little boys Zac and Josh along with her friends and family.
Meredith Baldwin, Art Director
With extensive experience in the magazine industry, Meredith has worked as designer and art director on numerous NZ titles over the years after starting out in design and advertising. A vegetarian with a keen interest in healthy eating and sustainable living, Healthy Life Media is the perfect place to be.
Hayley Pearce BDes (VisCom), Senior Designer (part-time)
Hayley has worked in the magazine industry across many NZ titles before coming aboard at Healthy Life Media. She has a keen interest in cooking healthy meals for her young family and teaching her daughters the basics in the kitchen. Hayley also runs her own screen-printing business The Art Room, specialising in printing designer pillowcases, bedding, homewares and limited-edition art prints.

After working in the magazine industry as an editor in South Africa, Tasha decided to move to the Land of The Long White Cloud and further her career in the industry she fell in love with. Sarah is an Olympian and trained physiotherapist who is passionate about living a full life by looking after your health and wellbeing. She draws on her long career in track and field as a heptathlete and high jumper and her experience as a physiotherapist to provide sensible fitness advice. Sarah’s sporting career highlight was fulfilling a lifelong dream to compete at the Olympics, which she did in the heptathlon at the 2012 London Olympics. Founding director (1998) of Yale University’s Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center, Past-President of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and Founder/President of the True Health Initiative. Katz earned his BA degree from Dartmouth College (1984); his MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (1988); and his MPH from the Yale University School of Public Health (1993).
